With a sound vaguely reminiscent of the Wedding Present gone speed metal, the Dudley Corporation creates a breakneck update on traditional indie sounds. This Irish power-pop trio combines the intensity of the Promise Ring with the sweet melodies of the Delgados. Is this McClusky on Prozac, or just the sound of young Ireland today? You decide!
The Dudley Corporation might be the power-trio to end all power-trios. The band's unbelievably catchy riffs, vocal hooks, & whip smart song structures are backed by some of the sickest drumming to come out of Ireland since... well... maybe ever. Recorded at Glasgow indie label Chemikal Underground's chem 19 studio, The lonely world of the dudley corporation"s 14 songs have already pushed many listeners past the point of fanaticism in the UK. beware U.S. of A. there's a new sherriff in town.
The album starts with a hailstorm of bright guitar chords changing directions over posh vocal melodies and ricocheting drum swells and accents. As time progresses The Lonely World of... disapates into a section of lovely ballads. Its most endearing moments plow back into more mapped herks and jerks. With the band's sophomore effort In Love With The Dudley Corporation appearing in the UK, again on Scientific Laboratories, The Corporation's hostile takeovers may very well tug at the heart a bit more.
