Editor's review

It turns out that decent reggae music can come from even the most unlikely corners of the Earth: France. The Dynamics debuted with a tripped-up, dubby reggae version of The White Stripes' "7 Nation Army"--and the result is a track you can imagine Jack White laying back and blowing smoke rings to. The rest of their tracks are equally diverse and somewhat surprising considering the lead's deep house background.

Biography

The band was created near the end of 2003, after the release of Steve McQueen, a Patchworks 7 inch.
The Dynamics music is a witness to the influence of American soul on Jamaican music. Their unique sound retraces the connections between soul, reggae and dub, mixing old-school flavours and modern production techniques. The result is deep, dynamic and characterized by strong vocals and an effective stage presence.

Patchworks (selection and mixing) :
He produces for various labels (Q-Tape FR, Acid Jazz UK and Still Music US). Patchworks is currently recognized as one of the more prolific and esteemed French creators. His productions go from deep house to soul and jazz). By producing the Dynamics sound, he follows an old childhood dream, vocal soul bands and reggae music.

Dapper Ray AKA Mr Day (singer, song writer) :
He is one of the founders of the Lyon today scene. Dapper Ray is probably one of the most highly respected soul and deep house French singers. His Influences, like Curtis Mayfield or Smokey Robinson bring a real soulful flavour to the band. Just like Patchworks, he works with a number of different labels (Rotax FR, Glasgow Udg UK, Guidance US).

Stevie Levi (singer, MC, song writer) :
Originally from Bristol UK, Stevie recently moved to Lyon France to join the Dynamics. His style would be somewhere between Horace Andy, Marvin Gaye and U Roy, a wide range of influences. He brings to the band his original stage presence, warmth, passion and a rarely seen energy !

Mounam (singer, song writer) :
Originally from Cameroon, Mounam is a main figure of the Lyon music scene, with a 10 years evolution through all the Afro-American styles (gospel, soul blues and jazz). Mounam can often be seen on special featurings for Zora Young US, Patchworks, Colorblind, FR or Slovo UK.

Flab Master Flab (stage effects) :
From Boston US, Flab describes himself as a musical hobo. From working in recording studios for the last 10 years, he brings a great range of influences to the band and a unique technique of effects. On stage, his vintage equipment feeds the Dynamic sound with a proper timeless dub quality.
