Editor's review

Turning punk rock into noise rock may sound like a breeze, but there's a textural precision in the latter category by which punk doesn't abide. All the more impressive that these vets make screeching guitars and radical vocals--punks's ore--the stuff of audiophilic anthems.

Biography

The Ex in a nutshell: contemporary music since 1979, over fifteen releases, thousands of concerts all over Europe, Northern America and Africa, and special projects of many sorts. The Ex is constantly developing and always open to new ideas and collaborations with people of all kinds - people whose spirit and constitution inspire and appeal to the group.

The Ex began during the heydays of the punk wave, and has since developed into a melting pot of divergent musical styles. Noise, jazz, improvisation, and ethnic music are interwoven under one unique umbrella: Ex-music. Discordant, highly rhythmic guitars with a rolling, almost tribal drumming style give the music its special character.

In its 25 years of existence, The Ex has never been pigeonholed into one of pop music s corny corners. The main principle has remained: to make music with heart and soul, out of reach of commercial trends or expectations. The consequent political approach of the group and the manner in which they organize their concerts and releases, sets a significant example for the alternative music circuit.
