Cam (bass), Ryan (drums), and Andre (keyboards) first came together in the winter of 2001 playing improvised electronic jams. Their sound was initially inspired by the new wave of live-electronic bands (e.g., the new deal, the disco biscuits) that were igniting the scene with their organic approach to the genre.
In September of 2001 they teamed up with Chris (guitar) and began incorporating their off-center electronics into the structures of rock songs. They worked hard through the fall and eventually made their live debut in San Francisco, in early 2002.
Coming into their own during the summer of 2002, the Kuffs played around the city while recording a collection of post-rock soundscapes in their apartment. This material surfaced on the self-released Figures, Patterns + Objects EP. After playing a string of fall shows, the band retreated to their apartment to develop new material.
In April, 2003 the Kuffs emerged from the studio with a new EP simply titled the Kuffs. The band has matured well beyond their first release, but the layered guitars and synthesizers still dominate their sound.
The band will be playing some shows in California this spring. During the summer, they will embark on a US Tour.
