The roster of now-defunct band the Monorchid, later pared down to form Skull Kontrol, includes former Circus Lupus members Chris Thompson and Chris Hamley. With a refined yet angular sound, they infuse vague hints of the Rolling Stones into a wiry proto-screamo approach. Tightly wound grooves, growling bass, and rock 'n' roll riffs are their forte; these guys spank you with quirky rock music topped off with the unmistakable sound of Thompson's voice.
The Monorchid combine: antiseptic vocal stylings delivered with a surgical strike precision, a throbbing bombastic bass (as could only be siphoned from a teenage boy), with what can only be described as an alter-kilter guitar duel between the likes of Eddie Cochran and Robert Fripp, finally held in place by the lock and groove bam-bam as can only be delivered by the cartographer percussionist.
