The Nite Lights are a Philadelphia based four-piece original rock band. Since their beginning in the summer of 2002 they have increased their local following with a stylistically diverse sound and cabaret inspired performances. Drawing on influences ranging from traditional rock and roll to vaudevillesque Americana inspired folk , their growing reputation for creating psychological narratives coupled with solid grooves, unconventional composition, and classic guitar work has secured them frequent billing with popular national acts(Sam Roberts,Dogs Die in Hot Cars, Trashcan Sinatras)at the area's top rock venues (The Tin Angel, The North Star, The Khyber, The Trocadero, The Fire, and World Cafe' Live). In 2003, the band released their first CD ?I was Born A Man? and received solid reviews from Rockpile magazine, Atlanta Music Morsels, The Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia City Paper. At this time the band began collaborating with other Philadelphia artists and playing more unconventional venues.
The Nite Lights exposed themselves to a broader and more varied audience. This expanded audience eventually included Pittsburgh, New York, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. forcing a 3rd pressing of the debut. The Nite Lights went back into the studio to record a follow up. The band also enlisted the help of some of it's new found friends to perform. Devin Greenwood played Hammond A organ on the track "Big River", an extended six minute blues romp, and Birdie performs a duet with Joe on the cd's final track "One More Time". The second cd entitled 'a Quiet Evening with the Nite Lights' was released on March 29th, 2005. After a successful tour highlighted by a featured performers set at the Midpoint Music Festival in Cincinnati the band hunkered down to work on a new set of straight up rock and roll. After arranging the songs we realized that something wasn't quite right and in true Spinal Tap tradition lost another drummer. Almost a year had passed since our tour had ended in October 2005 and eager to get something out by Christmas 2006 the band ,sans drums, put together a batch of acoustic songs and headed into the studio. During these sessions bassist Swifty Morgan found a lump in his neck that was later diagnosed as cancer. After extensive surgeries in October and April 2006 that left a scar from "ear to ear" and several rounds of radiation, the band soldiered on with new drummer Jon Kois of Marah, and Three Four Tens fame, to finish the new cd "Descend" a year to the day he had found the lump. The Nite Lights vow this to be one of 3 new cd's they will release between December 2007 and December 2008. This January the bassist will be undergoing another round of radiation to hopefully kill some remaining cancer cells found in November. Stay tuned for further details....
