Editor's review

Sturdy electric guitars and lusty drums from the '90s alt-pop archive anchor this addition to the NYC ranks. But before we go making Matthew Sweet comparisons, let's dig a bit deeper. The group tests its tether with noir twinges and godly vocals somewhere between Bolan and Buckley.

Biography

The sound of The Orchard Thieves is an invitation to the world of dark pop. Lush keyboards, carefully-crafted melodies and enduring lyrics have poised New York City's latest for mass appeal while maintaining an impressive degree of artistic integrity. On stage, the group boasts energetic performances and skillful musicianship, surprising audiences with unabashed charisma and an honesty that is refreshing. Born of a collaborative songwriting effort by long- time friends D. Patrick and Jeff Stephens, The Thieves formed in early 2005 with an impressive catalogue of songs already in place. The pair soon teamed with Vin Aliberto and Josh Boelter and immediately began work on their debut album TBA(Fall 2006). Based in New York City's Lower East Side, the band quickly became active in the local rock scene, seducing audiences with a sound that is nothing short of undeniable. The Orchard Thieves has performed at a number of notable New York City venues, including Shine, Bitter End, Sin- e, The Cutting Room and the Legendary Village Underground.
