Lemon is awesome for making breakbeats eclectic and listenable again, all while giving them a--gasp--sunny vibe. His tracks are obscure but made famous by other DJs who can't help but use them on their compilations (the cheeky "Won't You Join Me for a Drink?" appears memorably on Ursula 1000's praised "Ursadelica" mix). He's surely an oddball producer, but we wouldn't have it any other way!
LEMON is the alter-ego of UK producer, DJ, multi-Instrumentalist and label boss Nick Hollywood.
He was one half of the team responsible for the seminal London "clubland institution" CLUB MONTEPULCIANO, described by Time Out as one of the "things you have to do before you can call yourself a real Londoner". The club ran for over 11 years and pioneered the emerging Lounge, Cabaret and Burlesque scenes. As things took off, the label CLUB MONTEPULCIANO RECORDINGS was set up, through which came a series of influential compilations featuring like-minded artists such as THIEVERY CORPORATION, NICOLA CONTE, CAPSULE, TRUBY TRIO, MO' HORIZONS, URSULA 1000, BABY MAMMOUTH, THE FRANK POPP ENSEMBLE and SKEEWIFF, together with LEMON's debut album, a string of sold-out 7" singles and EPs and a number of other artist albums.
Tracks from LEMON have since been licensed to over 35 compilations worldwide and can be heard in adverts across Europe and the States for companies including Coca Cola, Walmart, Walls, Johnsons and Alpha Bank. Songs also appear on the soundtracks and trailers to several Hollywood movies including Havana Nights, Dirty Dancing 2, School for Scoundrels and Wild Hogs. They also frequently crop up on mainstream TV...
In 2005 the new label FRESHLY SQUEEZED MUSIC took over from Club M and amoungst their first releases was LEMON's second album "With a Twist".
