Danielle Thys is vocalist for songwriter Michael David Golden's music and lyrics. Danielle's voice has been compared to Cerys Matthews of Catatonia, Shara Nelson of Massive Attack, Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. From the rocking, I'm the One to the janging guitars (Golden) and violin (Linda Robertson) on Yeti Boy, Thys brings a haunting emotional honesty to these compelling songs.
Golden joins in with Cat Stevens-like vocals on Vanessa. The Rhine, with Adam Hurst, (who studied with Yo Yo Ma) on cello and Susie Goldenstein, (a regular collaborator with Mary Ellen Donald) playing a traditional Middle Eastern pattern on doumbek, has an almost mythic, ancient folk feel to it. While Something So Beautiful is a beautifully stark acoustic piece that really sets off Thys' vocals.
The Ruby Moon's rhythm section keeps it all together with Daniel Sofaer on bass and Matt Pendleton on drums. Mark Love engineered at Polk Street Recording, and Mr. Toad's (both in San Francisco) did the mastering. Cover art Zoltan Palffy and Michael David Golden.
