Literally, the Soul Hunters' name refers to the Christian message they hope to spread with their contemporary gospel songs. But one listen makes the musical connotation obvious as well. The grandiose, clean recording style of this quartet of Indiana cousins can't efface the thick soul feel that dwells beneath.
? When four cousins from Connersville, Indiana set out for church camp in 1999, little did they know what the Lord had in store for them. The Soul Hunters are Amanda Pennington, Jennifer Gillespie, Jill Gillespie-Calhoon, and Tyler Blakley. All four are members of the Hunter family, and were blessed to grow up in Christian households and have strong Baptist roots. It was obvious that family was instrumental in the formation of the group. They decided to demonstrate this in their name while also stating a very simple mission: hunting souls for Christ. Nearly six years later, the self-proclaimed Martins/Avalon hybrid are still going strong with their undeniable harmonies, magnetic personalities, and entertaining live performances. Ranging in age from 19 to 23, the group?s versatility and unique style make them appealing to all ages and genres.
?The Soul Hunters have resolved to reach as many people as possible for Jesus. They accomplish this by traveling the country preaching the gospel through their music. The quartet has recorded one full length album and a four-song demo in Nashville with some of the industry?s finest musicians.? As they have been perfecting their craft and finishing school, the call of full-time ministry has become stronger and inspired them to pursue their dream and reach millions worldwide for Christ.?
