My dad bought a guitar from a friend of his. Never ever had one in his hands before. He saved it from being repossessed. He put in the closet for about a year. Dad and mom started going to church and they ask God to forgive their sins. The people at the church talked dad into learning a couple of cords on that guitar. He did. He started teaching my brothers and me how to sing. There were 3 of us boys. I was the middle one. My
oldest brother took right up to the guitar. He learned faster than my dad. By the time I was 3 years old, we were singing every service that the church held. Dad was as nervous as a cat at a dog fighting event.
But, as time went on, we grew, the family grew, and our popularity grew also. We added two more brothers and a sister. We were singing all over North and South Carolina, and Radio Stations as well. We even sang a few times on two different TV Programs at two different TV Stations. People liked to hear us sing. I listened to an old record we did when I was about 4 or 5 years old. Man, it sounded like we all were huffing helium or something. It's funny. We started singing in 1957. We stopped in 1971.
?I never understood why we never made a career out of our singing. But I have often wondered just how differently my life would have turned out to be if we had.
