It's safe to say this West Coast duo's "Zodiac Killer" ranks tops among hip-hop tracks about constipation. Who but they could underline a granny's diatribe on Metamucil and roughage with "avant-hard" beats drawing from LL-era hip-hop, explosive house, and the urban sound circa 2010?
Third Sight, featuring legendary turntable musician DJ D-Styles and revered emcee Roughneck Jihad, brings layers of lyrical imagery and turntable innovation over dark and aggressive stylings resulting in what can only be dubbed "avant hard" hip hop. With its innovation grounded nevertheless in late 80s hip hop, and that era's no-nonsense MCing and full integration of the DJ ("the DJ's name always came first!," as Jihad emphasizes), Third Sight is somewhat of a refreshing throwback in its musical values and outlook. The careful listener will take note of other influences as far-reaching as film, comic books, the Beatles, serial killers, global politics, Eek-a-Mouse, deviance (sexual and otherwise), science fiction and tragic life experiences.
