Throcke is the work of Brooklyn's Christopher Mollineaux Carson, a drummer who likes to dabble with electronics. Here, he experiments with tempo and vibe--sometimes sounding like a mutated version of the theme song for Mario Brothers--other times slowing things down with acoustic guitars, mellow beats, strange voices and sampled sounds.
Biography
Throcke is the solo effort of Christopher Mollineaux Carson, a Brooklyn based musician. Though primarily known as a drummer (current projects include The Richard Wagner International School for Girls) he also finds inspiration in other instruments, and things that might not be considered instruments at all. Kitchen appliances and street noises are swirled in with synths, guitars, and abstract vocals, layered in an intricate groove. The resulting moods can be reminiscent of some sort of retro video game, or a soothing daydream, or a traditional West African mallet ensemble. But always there are clever intertwining melodies. In the all-too-often repetitive world of electronic music. Throcke is a refreshing and challenging new voice.
