Drawing inspiration from his youth minister at Couteau Baptist Church - Jason Bradfield, Tinman began his rap career at the age of 13 under the name of "J-Dawg." Jason used to perform rap songs by writing lyrics to instrumental tracks. The first time Tinman heard Jason rap will be a moment he will never forget. After seeing the excitement of over 2000 people during that performance at a youth camp, Tinman knew this is what he wanted to do. Even during the early stages of Tinman's career, anyone could tell that he was not your typical rapper. His Christian lifestyle ran rampant throughout his lyrics yet his style was as hardcore as his secular counterparts. Tinman continued to perform at various church functions until he graduated from high school. As he entered a new chapter of his life, he began attending college and dropped out of the rap game. Although he thought he would never pick up a microphone again, God had a different plan for him. In February 2004 Tinman signed with Stepping Stone Records (owned by a friend he met during college), dropping the name of J-Dawg to symbolize a new era in his career. Tinman immediately began working with producers Justin DeGeorge and Troy Tauzin on his debut album entitled "Barriers" Tinman is bringing it hard with a goal to reach the lost while praising God as well as to entertain the Christian community with Christian rap.
