Biography

"Big Black Submarine" is the signature song of the first Tommy Cox CD "Take Her Deep" first recorded in 1978, as an LP Album. "Take Her Deep" gave birth to an entire genre of music about the Submarine Service. Three more Tommy Cox CDs have followed. Although Tommy's music is about the Submarine Service, it is also, about Tommy's incredible musical and vocal talents, which he has chosen to dedicate to the "unsung heroes" of the US Submarine Service. Tommy's full BIO, including the many submarines he served aboard, is available on his webpage. With "Take Her Deep" Tommy Cox takes you on a musical adventure, offering you the unique opportunity to ride along with America's Submarine Force "where no other human being can be found." Beginning with the opening diving klaxon, followed by Tommy's commanding voice, "Dive! Dive!" you will discover the dedication and pride of the US Submarine Fleet with "Big Black Submarine." Feel the tragic loss of a submarine with "Scorpion." Ride along for one of the most intense missions of the cold war aboard the nuclear fast attack submarine, USS Lapon, in a chilling round of nuclear Blind Man's Bluff with Captain Mack in "The Ballad of Whitey Mack." Feel the sacrifices of those who serve aboard submarines in "The Sacrificed" and "Boomer Patrol." Spend a day smack dab in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis with "Gitmo Blues." Travel "there" and back again with the brave men who squeezed the last possible missions out of the world's second nuclear submarine "Seawolf." Sing along with bolts and nuts and gravel guts diesel submarine sailors, with the diesel sailor's creed "Diesel Boats Forever!" Feel the sacrifices of loved ones and family in "Long Separation" and "Freedom Patrol." Learn of the mysterious submariner known only as "Tango Charlie." Take a deep breath and try to control your heartbeat while listening to "Torpedo in the Water." Finish your voyage with "Sailor's Prayer" and hear the final klaxon: "Surface! Surface! Surface!"
