Super-producer, TONY "CD" KELLY, is one of music's top hit makers. His sound has been instrumental in creating hit songs for popular dancehall/reggae artists like Sean Paul, Shaggy, Wayne Wonder, Super Cat, and Beenie Man to name a few. His work with artists like DMX, Foxy Brown, Cypress Hill, Capone & Noreaga, Scarface, and Nokio of Dru Hill has exposed a whole new audience of R&B/hip-hop fans to dancehall/reggae music. I think one of the reasons why my production crosses over into the mainstream market is the way I create melody. You don't have to understand every word of the Jamaican dialect to dance to one of my songs or sing the chorus, offers Kelly.
In August 2005, Tony Kelly will gather reggae music's brightest shining stars for the first series from the K..LICIOUS RIDDIM KOLLECTION which features 18 brand new songs on the KATANA RIDDIM featuring Shaggy on "Ready Fi Di Ride," Wayne Wonder on "Di Agony, Bounty Killer on "Top Billing", Mr. Easy on "It's Crazy" Tanya Stephens on "Female Pimping" Bud on "Played" and Xavier Aeon on "Cut" among others. Every artist selected for The K..Licious Riddim Kollection: Katana Riddim is someone who I have a special relationship with or someone I worked with before, explains Tony Kelly. Each artist brings his or her own interpretation to the Riddim, he explains. I call this one the Katana Riddim after a popular bike in Jamaica which all the young people ride, says Kelly. His company K..Licious Music, has released many hit riddims including The "Bookshelf" riddim, which sparked two hits - Sean Paul's 2000 hit "Deport Dem" and Sasha's "Dat Sexy Body" The "Buy Out" riddim spawned another hit single for Sean Paul, "Like Glue".
Tony Kelly was recently awarded with the BMI Urban Music Award for Sean Paul's chart topper "Like Glue" which he calls a highlight of his career. Another highlight is his 2004 Grammy nomination for "Best Reggae Album" for the Def Jam, Def Jamaica, compilation album, which he co-produced. The album paired today's hottest dancehall artists with some of the biggest names in hip-hop.
