Editor's review

Though this Texas country-folk artist lists Patsy Cline and Lucinda Williams as influences, her gritty sound owes more to the stoic fellows of the genre than to the famed dames. Seegers' slide-riffin' stomps play like codas to the old adage about messin' with Texas--don't.

Biography

Native Texan Tressie Seegers is among the newest singer/songwriters to embrace the rising genre known as American Roots music. She was born in Freeport in 1969, and from an early age Tressie looked to such diverse musical influences as Cat Stevens and Johnny Cash. Learning to sing and play in church as a child, she once convinced her mother to forego a dining room table in favor of a piano. She has played guitar and written songs all her life, and has performed everywhere from tent revivals to honky-tonks. Tressie is also an accomplished artist, M.F.A. candidate and holds a B.F.A. degree from the University of Texas. Her works have been displayed in many exhibitions throughout the country.

Her set list reads like a whos who of Texas troubadours, and there is a comfortable cover-to-original ratio for music lovers. She pays tribute to Billy Joe Shaver, Townes Van Zandt, Janis Joplin, and Patsy Cline. Tressie chose to celebrate truth, the ultimate element of Americana music. Simple, pared down front porch music combined with intelligent songs and celebrated favorites. Its as much a collage of beauty as one of Tressies works of art.
