Editor's review

If Ryan Adams smoked Jeff Tweedy's brand of cigarettes, he'd sound something like Ithaca's Macdonald. On "Porch Light," his first solo release, the gravelly alt-country singer-songwriter lets a lifetime on the road and in the fields give his tunes an honest, rootsy feel that's hard to find and harder to fake.

Biography

Trevor MacDonald  loves "Office Space," the movie. Bikram yoga, Writing songs, and performing.

Well-known as the energetic front man of Sunny Weather, Trevor MacDonald displays a new side of his talent and on his upcoming first solo album. With Sunny Weather, Trevor kept festivalgoers grooving until dawn in the dance tent. Trevor's solo work resonates with the variety of his musical skills and influences — a sound that blends rock, country, and Zydeco with song–writing that is mature, lyrical, and down-right fun. Those of us who know the freshness of Trevor's work with the youthfully exuberant Sunny Weather will not be disappointed by Trevor's growth, his surprisingly original new purchase on the Americana tradition. And, if you are discovering this burgeoning talent for the first time, you'll find a truly creative songwriter of intellect, sensitivity, and youthful audacity.

As one of six children growing up about a mile outside of the stop sign known as Perry City, Trevor quickly learned the value of a hard-day's work. Home schooling allowed his parents to keep him and his sibling's home to help out on the family farm. But the young family's Amish-Meets -Hippie lifestyle took a dramatic and tragic turn when Trevor was 13. A fire completely wiped out his family's house. Lack of insurance led to difficulties with taxes, and the family land was lost to the IRS. The whole family loaded into a truck with two trailers in tow and headed out to California. Life in CA was no picture-perfect rise from the ashes - the MacDonalds struggled, but also learned the lessons of hard work and dedication. Trevor labored in the fields and sought for inspirations and new opportunities. A guitar (which he still has today!) given by a family friend finally gave him a newly discovered love; he began to play, to write and to

compose his first songs.

At the age of 16, Trevor wanted to return to New York, and he traveled across the country for his home in Trumansburg. Once there, he took work with the roots-rock pioneers, Donna the Buffalo. While traveling on their tour bus for the next few years, Trevor did various odd jobs: sound, guitar tuning, as well as his first appearances on stage. With the Donna crew, Trevor cut his musical teeth. During this time, he fell in love with Zydeco, and added the accordion to his list of musical abilities. He started making a yearly pilgrimage to Louisiana to experience the roots of the Zydeco movement. Working with Donna, he built a second family and a second home, while growing up fast in the world of the traveling musician.

A short year later, he made his first recording in Arlington, VA this modest cassette tape showed his diamond-in-the-rough talent. That same year, Sunny Weather was formed. Their first gig was in Cortland, NY in 1997. Sunny Weather spent seven years traveling over 100,000 miles up and down the East Coast, performing over 500 shows. During their career, they have released four albums on the I-Town Records label, which was created in 1999 with the help of Trevor's enthusiasm.

In 2001, Trevor experienced deep heartbreak, when a relationship came to a crashing halt. Although deeply hurt by this experience, some of his best material came from this tumultuous time in his life, as well as some of his most valued life lessons. This difficult experience did kick his drive to write into overdrive, and, he has, at present, hundreds of songs just waiting to see the light of a studio.
