In France, "Dirty South" suggests a brasserie in Aix that only got two Michelin stars. Still, TTC deftly weaves some stateside rap grit--and even Lil' Jon-style "OK"s--into taut club beats. This is discotheque trance, full of snaky synths and rhythmic thunder, with a DIY spirit.
The most innovative, risk-taking and outrageous hip hop act to come out of France in the last decade, TTC are back. With Cuiziner established as a heartthrob in the US, Teki Latex set to release a pop-rave album and Tido Berman concentrating on advanced, heavy-lidded sativation, the trio are back with their third album, “3615TTC”.
And the first taste comes in the form of this double A side platteur, produced by their flying helmet-wearing DJ, Orgasmic. “Telephone” continues the groups love of taking stinky dance music and turning it into something nasty and funky. Over it, the boys spin out great webs of words on the subject of not answering the phone and exploit their love of shouting “Non!”
“Paris Paris” is, unsurprisingly, an ode to the group’s hometown. Apparently it has the most of everything. It certainly has the most of the beat – catchy, funny and shuffly in a good way.
