Biography

ALIB PRESENTS AIR BREAKS…
AIR RECORDINGS

Ali B's London based club night Air has rocked the Capital with the finest beats and breaks for the past 9 years, regularly causing the kind of queues most promoters can only dream about. Now a force to be reckoned with on the festival circuit, with arenas at Global Gathering, Glastonbury, Hi-Fi, and beyond, Air is the place where you’ll find the biggest and brightest talents in the genre.

Ali B is now ready to unleash the club’s first compilation album, Ali B Presents Air Breaks, featuring 18 exclusive and previously unreleased tracks from some of the biggest names in breaks including Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors, Freestylers, Krafty Kuts, DJ Icey, Soul Of Man, Freq Nasty, Deekline, Rennie Pilgrem, Lee Coombs, Atomic Hooligan, Precision Cuts and many more.

All the artists who’ve played at Air over the years, ranging from scene leaders such as Freestylers and Stanton Warriors, through to rising stars such as Will Saul and Janette Slack, where possible have contributed bespoke tracks especially for the mix, making Ali B Presents Air Breaks a definitive snapshot of the worldwide breaks scene in 2006. From Hip Hop infused beats, bumping grooves and tech breaks the only remit was ‘make it
funky…’

To coincide with the album release, Air will be undertaking an unprecedented worldwide festival arena tour covering China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK.

Ali B established Air Recordings as the recording arm of his infamous Air parties, which have been running since the mid nineties at venues across London, including The Blue Note, 333, Mass, Electrowerkz, Rhythm Factory and its current home, Cargo. Air is now a worldwide name taking on arenas at festivals such as Glastonbury, Global Gathering, Hi-Fi, Two Tribes (Australia) and more. It is widely acknowledged as the biggest force in British beats regularly playing host to artists including The Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors and The Freestylers.

Musically, Air Recordings covers a wide range of leftfield sounds. Releases have included Finish electro breaks duo Mr Velcro Fastener, US stalwarts, Tony Faline and DJ Love, the UK’s Will Saul (with Ursula Rucker), and rising star, Janette
Slack, alongside Ali B himself who’s recent track with The Jungle Brothers propelled Air Recordings into the
major league. ‘Beats On A String’ was play-listed on BBC 6 in the UK and Australia’s national Triple J radio station. The first album released on Air Recordings, ‘Ali B Presents Air Breaks’, is a definitive snapshot of the worldwide breaks scene in 2006.

Ali B is a prominent member of London’s leftfield scene. Over the last decade he has held down residencies at the capital’s two most influential clubs. He spent his teens working at the Acid Jazz label and then as a DJ, made his mark as resident at the legendary Blue Note club. He now resides at Fabric where he has been from the day it opened. He also hosted a weekly radio show on Capital FM for five years, the UK’s biggest commercial radio station. Ali’s own artist productions, including his recent track with Jungle Brothers, and remixes for the likes of Positiva, Multiply, Sony and Cheeky, have taken him, and breaks, to an international audience.
