Two teens meet in an Atlanta high school and, fed up with mainstream hip-hop, join forces to forge a dynamic new style. Sound familiar? No, we're not talking about OutKast, but S.L.One and k.i.d. clearly have a lot in common with 'drei and Big, not least of which are a soulful streak and smart, empathetic lyrics.
"Vintage Imperial" emerges from a dissolving Hip Hop world where who you know, means more than what you do, representing what Hip Hop was and what it should be today.
The name "Vintage Imperial" broken down is very simple.
Vintage represents classic and supreme quality.
Imperial represents the superior authority, which every artist is entitled to have.
"An artist is an artist because they are creators of whatever art they're doing"
The art that Vintage Imperial creates is a direct reflection of them, created on their own terms, which will either make you respect them or resent them. "Vintage Imperial" consists of the twisted pair "S.L.One" and "k.i.d. (Keen Imperial Dialect" kaos" who met in an Atlanta area high school in 1998. Through disgust with trendy and meaningless hip hop the duo decided to join forces and elbow their way into existence. With their debut LP "Imperialism", the partners in rhyme have rearranged the structure and order of things.
With a crazy live show the duo built a buzz around Atlanta by performing with other underground legends such as MF Doom, Akrobatik, Breeze Evahflowing, C-Rayz Walz, Science of Life, Mass Influence, and Maspyke.
By the summer of 2002 they were ready for action when they released thier first 12 inch record.
The release featured the songs Mic Club / Boiling Point / Combining Perfect Rhymes Part 2 or C.P.R. 2 and instally became an Atlanta underground classic. They received airplay on all Atlanta college radio stations from WREK 91.1, WRFG 89.3, and became a part of regular rotation on WRAS 88.5.
After building a buzz in Atlanta, the 12 inch was picked by TRC Distribution in San Francisco and Boiling Point Distribution in New York to be distributed across the world. During the summer and fall of 2002 Vintage Imperial's name could be seen all over radio charts from New York, Chicago, Miami, Boston, Germany, Sweeden, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo
Japan. By December of 2002 Vintage Imperial's "Mic Club" was voted as one of the top 10 records to have in 2002 by WRAS 88.5 listeners.
In March 2003, Vintage Imperial celebrated their second 12 inch release. This time around the songs Terrible / You Dont Want No More / You Dont Want No More REMIX were featured. The first 12 inch was an introduction, the second solidified Vintage Imperial as underground monarchs.
This is just the begining, follow as Vintage Imperial gets closer to its plan of world domination.
"Our goal as emcee's is to share our perspective of life through musical poetry that will appeal to all open minds."
