Editor's review

Before there was She & Him, there was this he (Steve Tannen) and this her (Deb Talan), an indie-pop pair of such self-evident loveliness that soundtrackers fell over themselves to sign them up. New LP "Hideaway" is their soberest and wisest turn yet, every vocal rueful, every guitar aglow.

Biography

Just months after two major winter TV ad placements generated over 220,000 track downloads and over 2 million views on their MySpace page, THE WEEPIES are set to release HIDEAWAY--the highly anticipated follow up to their Nettwerk debut, Say I Am You--on April 22, 2008.

Since the release of Say I Am You, The Weepies (Deb Talan and Steve Tannen) have received an unprecedented 43 major film and TV placements. Their Nettwerk debut held the #1 spot on the iTunes folk chart - in eight countries. In the last two years, the album has been in the #1 spot on the US iTunes chart for over 50 weeks; in the top ten for over 100.

Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol nominated them for a Short List Music Prize; Mandy Moore tapped their creative skills to contribute five songs and sing on her latest album. They played the Oxegen Festival in Ireland, the Hurricane Festival in Germany, T in the Park in Scotland and toured relentlessly across the US selling out rooms at every stop.

Hideaway is a darker companion to the previous album, with songs ranging from the upbeat title track to the jangly rock of “Not Dead Yet” to the gorgeously arranged meditations like “How You Survived The War” and “Little Bird.” The 14 tracks remain rooted in The Weepies unique writing and unusual harmonies. Their distinctive production is once again filled out by bass player and guitarist Whynot Jansveld, guitarist Meghan Toohey and drummer Frank Lenz. Additional musicians include string player Oliver Kraus, keyboardist John Deley, guitarist Steve Walsh, and horn player/ keyboardist Brad Gordon.
