Ashley Beedle and the Problem Kids formed X-Press 2 back in the early '00s and kicked in the dance floor with their often sarcastic jams (including but not limited to "Lazy"). Now they're back with old-schooler Kurt Wagner of Lambchop, who lends his instantly recognizable vox to new single "Give It" (its underbelly borrowing from Spektrum's "Kinda New"). Dance music and humor go well together--we're glad these dudes weirdly master it.
New album from UK club-rockers features lead vocals by Tim DeLaughter (The Polyphonic Spree), Kurt Wagner (Lambchop), Anthony Roman (Radio 4), Rob Harvey (The Music), Kissing The Pink and Bernard Fowler (NYC Peech Boys / Rolling Stones)
Straight outta London (the unfettered, charming, utterly British bio): Presenting, for your foot-tapping pleasure and mind-expanding enjoyment, the men of X-Press 2. The last time they were here, their humongous fanbase propelled their vinyl-only 12-inches (i.e.: "London X-Press," "Muzik X-Press," "The Sound")— sold sans barcodes— thumping up the charts. But they've been away for a while, sweating in the DJ trenches, frequenting international clubs aplenty, trapped in the studio with Sixties sunshine-pop LPs, wrangling vocal stars from far and wide. But four years after they—and The Talking Heads' David Byrne—swaggered to #2 on the UK pop charts) in the charts with "Lazy," then waltzed home with an Ivor Novello Award (how proper is that?), the X-Press 2 three are back.
Back with "Makeshift Feelgood," the follow-up to the 100,000 selling "Muzikizum." Back with an album you'll be rocking all summer, and into the wintry beyond.
