. . . I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. - from The Road not Taken, by Robert Frost
Yellow Wood is an independent rock band from Canada’s forgotten city, Windsor, Ontario. Their music is about the struggles and tensions of life, capturing all of the associated emotions in both sound and lyrics. It is music inspired by failure that can catapult you to victory.
The journey began when brothers Adam (vocals, guitar) and Matt (drums) finally joined musical forces in early 2003. Both had played in bands for years, but not together. It wasn’t until Adam returned from seven months traveling overseas that they realized the compatibility of their musical dreams. They immediately began to write together and the chemistry was obvious. For the remainder of the year this continued and the search for band members began. A few promising but ultimately unsuccessful lineups were attempted, and by December, Yellow Wood seemed like it might not get off the ground. Both of them discouraged, Matthew suggested recording their songs, creating and performing all the parts themselves. Seeing it as the only real option, Adam agreed, and they bought a minimal amount of equipment to begin.
What resulted from that winter decision was more than a basic demo, but a strong first step in Yellow Wood’s career, the simply titled EP1. During those four months locked in their parents’ basement, the guitar/drum/ vocal song structures gradually grew flesh, feathers and wings of their own. Some matured just as imagined, and others died to be reborn as something better.
Today, Yellow Wood is a tight knit group, busy opening for established acts (The Features, Despistado, A Northern Chorus, Brian Borcherdt) and headlining their own successful shows. With every set they play and every hour in the van, theybecome a better band. A bright future awaits them.
